Otter alternatives: meeting notes that land on the customer

Short answer: If you are looking at Otter alternatives, ask first where your notes should end up. Otter.ai is a strong transcription tool that joins your calls and writes everything down. Alori is the all-in-one app for service businesses: its Meetings app records your video meetings, writes the transcript and a summary with next steps, and keeps them next to the customer, the deal and the tasks.

Who Otter fits well

Otter is a good pick when transcription is the job. It is built to sit in the meetings you already hold on Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams, write a live transcript, and let you search and share it. People who interview, teach, or take part in many outside calls get a lot from it.

As of October 2026, Otter's pricing page lists a free Basic plan with 300 transcription minutes per user per month, a Pro plan at $16.99 per user per month billed monthly, and a Business plan at $19.99 per user per month billed annually ($30 billed monthly). Enterprise pricing is by demo.

Why owners look for an Otter alternative

For a service business, a transcript is rarely the end of the work. Someone still has to:

  • copy the next steps into the CRM or a task list,
  • attach the call to the right customer so the team can find it later,
  • write the follow-up email,
  • remember what was promised when the customer calls back.

When notes live in a separate tool, those steps happen by hand, or not at all. You also pay per user for one more app while customers, quotes and jobs sit somewhere else.

What Alori replaces, and what it does not

What Alori gives you today:

  • Video meetings in the browser. Guests join from a link with no account. Keep Record on and the meeting is recorded. A waiting room lets you admit guests one by one. See the Meetings app.
  • Transcript and summary. When the meeting ends, Alori writes the transcript and a short summary with next steps. Click Create the task beside a next step to make it a task.
  • Ask about a meeting. Open a past meeting and ask "What did we decide?" or "Write a follow-up email". Ask Alori also finds past calls: "What did we talk about with the Gagnons last week?"
  • Recap by email. Whoever made the meeting gets the summary by email, with the transcript attached.
  • Phone calls too. With Record calls on, calls on your business number land on the customer with a recording, a transcript and a summary. See calls.
  • Import from elsewhere. Bring a recording or transcript from Zoom, Teams, Meet or your phone (.mp4, .m4a, .vtt, .srt, .txt or .docx), or paste the text. Alori writes the notes the same way.

What Alori does not do:

  • It does not join a Zoom, Google Meet or Teams call as a note taker. For those, you import the file after the call.
  • It is not a live captioning tool for lectures or interviews.
  • If transcription is all you need, Otter may stay the simpler choice.

How to switch

  1. Start your app. Describe your business and Alori builds it with customers, schedule and Meetings.
  2. Bring your customers. Paste a list into Ask Alori, even a messy one, or move from HubSpot if that is where they live.
  3. Import the meetings that matter. Export recordings or transcripts and import them in Meetings. Link each one to its customer.
  4. Hold the next call in Alori. Send the Alori video link instead of a Zoom link, keep Record on, and the notes arrive on their own.

FAQ

Is Alori a good Otter alternative? Yes, if you want meeting notes tied to your customers, deals and tasks, and you can hold your calls on Alori video. If you mostly need live transcripts of calls on Zoom, Meet or Teams, Otter fits that job better.

Can Alori record my Zoom or Teams calls? Not live. Alori records its own video meetings and calls on your business number. For a Zoom, Teams or Meet call, download the recording or transcript and import it in Meetings. Alori then writes the summary and next steps.

Do my guests need an account? No. Guests join an Alori video meeting in their browser from the link. They see that the meeting is recorded, transcribed and summarized before they join.

Does recording cost extra? Recording, notes and stored video use credits from your Alori balance. See pricing for plans and credits. There is a free plan, no card needed.
