Airtable alternatives for service businesses: stop building your CRM from scratch
Short answer: Airtable is a powerful database you shape yourself, with views, automations, interfaces and a large set of integrations. Many service owners use it to build their own customer list, job tracker or equipment log. If you are comparing Airtable alternatives because you are tired of maintaining that homemade system, Alori gives you customers, quotes, jobs and invoices ready to use, plus databases in Docs for everything else, with unlimited users on every plan.
Who Airtable fits well
Airtable is a strong fit when:
- You need a custom database that doesn't look like any standard app, and you like building it.
- You build interfaces, automations and scripts on top of your tables.
- You collect data from the public with shareable forms.
- You sync data with many other tools through its integrations and API.
For teams that want a flexible building block, Airtable is built for it.
Why service owners look for alternatives
A base that starts as a simple customer list grows into a homemade CRM:
- You maintain it yourself. Every new field, link and automation is one more thing to fix when it breaks.
- Quotes and invoices live somewhere else, so the job in the base and the money in the accounting tool drift apart.
- Per-seat pricing makes owners keep technicians out, so job updates come back by text.
- Texts, calls and emails with the customer are not in the base, only what someone typed in.

What Alori replaces, and what it does not
For a service business, Alori replaces the homemade base and the tools around it:
- Customers with companies, contacts, tags, custom fields and saved views, plus every text, email and call in their timeline.
- Quotes, jobs and invoices that already link to each other and to the customer. No formulas to write.
- Databases in Docs for the rest, like vans, equipment or suppliers: table, board, list, calendar, gallery, timeline, chart and form views, each with its own filters and sorts.
- Relations, rollups, formulas and buttons. Link two databases, sum linked rows, write a formula (or describe it and AI writes it), and change a row in one click.
- AI autofill columns that write a summary, keywords, a translation or your own prompt for each row.
- Automations in plain words when a customer, deal, quote, job, invoice, task or ticket is added or changes.
- Ask Alori to do it for you: "add a Due date column to Vans" or "show Vans as a board by status".
What it does not replace: Airtable's interface designer, scripts and extensions, public forms anyone can fill in, and automations that start from any table. A row in a Docs database does not start an automation today, and a CSV import takes 1,000 rows per file. If your business runs on a custom data model with many automations and integrations, Airtable stays the better building block. Using Notion for your docs? See the Notion alternative.
How to switch
- Describe your business. Alori builds the app with customers, quotes, jobs and invoices already set up.
- Bring your customers. Paste a list into Ask Alori after "Add these customers:", even messy. For a big file, use the import API.
- Bring the other tables. Export each Airtable table as CSV, then click Import at the bottom of the Docs sidebar: each CSV becomes a database, up to 1,000 rows per file.
- Invite the team, technicians included. Plans are on pricing, with a free plan and no card needed.
Questions
Another question? Ask it when you start.
For a service business that used Airtable as a homemade CRM or job tracker, yes: customers, quotes, jobs and invoices are built in, and Docs databases cover the rest. For a team that builds custom apps with interfaces, scripts and many automations, Airtable stays the better fit.
Yes, table by table. Export each table as CSV and import it in Docs, where it becomes a database. Linked records do not come over as links, so you set up relations again.
Not a Docs form: it is for teammates who can edit the database. Visitors reach you through your website's form and website chat, which land in Alori.
Automations run when customers, deals, quotes, jobs, invoices, tasks, tickets and other records are added or change. A Docs database row doesn't start one today.
Service businesses such as plumbing, HVAC and cleaning companies.
